Hailing from Melbourne Victoria, they've been playing this little rap game for around 4 years now and have recently released Mixtaste their promotional EP for the upcoming album Rise In Peace due for release in 2008 at some stage.Straight up, I have to say that this is just a fun ep, it really is, the first few beats these boys have produced for the CD just make me smile, the samples they've used are simply great. Ranging from
Classical Gas, to
Horror Movie and I do believe theres even some
Johnny Cash in there too. After those first four fun tracks with sampled beats and such, Bwiv Deece bring 3 tracks which they have made all themselves, with more of a raw feel In my opinion. Admittedly I enjoyed the first four tracks more but all in all it's a release of a pretty high quality. The only bad thing I think I can say about it is Deece's voice is a bit hard to get used to at times, but he makes it work with his unique flow, so even then its not so much a bad thing, just something you need to give time.
I really think this EP gives across a good idea of what these boys are capable of and what you can expect from there upcoming album. They have a range of sounds coming through on this, and although only seven tracks long, it paints a good picture of them as artists. I'm going to say my favourite track has to be
Classical Raps from the first half of the EP, it's a remake of the old track Classical Gas, and I have always been a lover of that amazing guitar playing. I feel they've done a great job with the beat and the raps over it, the only complaint is the chorus which seems a bit out of place. But I can let that slide.
All up im really feeling what these boys have brought out and will be very keen to cop the album when its due for release. Rating of 4.5/5
